IPv6 in Transition

Island Hopping to Common Ground

Canberra ACT Australia
17-19 November 2008

The 2005 Summit explored global IPv6 preparation ...
The 2006 Summit discussed the IPv6 business case ...
The 2007 Summit examined IPv6 at work ...

Now leap to the next stage with the 2008 Summit!

The five stages of protocol grief, adapted from Tony Hain:
  1. Denial: IPv6 will never catch on.
  2. Anger: This is so unfair! Why didn't anyone tell me IPv6 was coming!
  3. Bargaining: Maybe I can retire before we need to upgrade ...
  4. Depression: IPv6 just sucks.
  5. Acceptance: We can handle it, but it's going to take some work.
It's hard to bid farewell to an old friend like IPv4, but it's no longer a case of IF or WHEN ... we're already at HOW when Google starts offering an IPv6-enabled site! But right now we're all stuck on scattered islands of IPv6: the next stage is to find our common ground.

This Summit will look at recent IPv6 implementations - and how users, government, vendors and service providers can work together on planning, security and transition strategies.

Internet Protocol Version 6 offers enhanced mobility, simpler management, built-in security and almost unlimited Internet addresses for next-generation devices. The IPv6 Summit offers two days of international and Australian experts to discuss IPv6 possibilities, plus an optional one-day IPv6 Deployment Workshop that provides a hands-on guide to implementation.
